In addition to tea and coffee The Mathias' grow and harvest 4 other products: Arecanut, Cardamom, Vanilla and Black Pepper. These additional crops and of course their quality benefit from the vast tea and coffee infrastructure in terms of growing, production and labour efficiencies. Also because of the vast acreage they selectively choose the ideal growing regions. For example Arecanut and Cardamom require the marshiest areas whereas Vanilla and Pepper grow well in the coffee areas.
In keeping with our major objective eco-friendly farming the husks of the Arecanut and the coffee fruit skin are composted and returned to the fields. The secondary crop products as well, are fed by the natural spring waters of the Kelagur Hills giving them distinctive flavour advantages.
